Fifteen years ago we were in Kauai’i celebrating anniversaries. Not far from our lodging was the trailhead to the Nounou Mountain (aka Sleeping Giant) path. Round trip was a 3.5 miles with a 948 foot elevation change through rugged jungle terrain. The final pitch was very steep, requiring careful steps to avoid a nasty tumble back down the steep trail. The view at the top gloriusly revealed the ocean, inland mountains and the shoreline.

Sounds a bit intimidating, but as my Marine hubby would say, “you just put one foot in front of the other and don’t stop! The beauty of the view at the top was worth every challenging step, wasn’t it?
