After the Fall

After the Fall

by Howard Eskildsen

I’ve heard the Reaper’s evil laugh

As he turned to let me pass

“You rolled the dice but don’t try it twice

‘Cause I could have had you ass”

I have read headlines telling

Of others’ fall from high above

Though tragically, it was plain to see

They had died doing what they loved

But I can say with some authority

As one who has survived the fall

Love it or not, given time for thought

They would rather have not died at all
