Contrast and Illusion Sun and Moon

The Sun and the Moon have nearly the same apparant size in the sky even though the Moon is about 2000 miles in diameter and the Sun 835,000 miles in diameter. This is because the Moon is only 235,000 miles away while the Sun is 93,000 million miles away. This is a temporary situation, since the Moon is slowly moving away from Earth and will one day appear significantly smaller.
