Hunt ‘n Peck

Turkey and Cat Standoff

A family of turkeys, adults and young, warily walked across a yard in the neighborhood. Across the street in the woods, another feathered flock watched and waited. Then an unwelcome intruder edged in to the scene; the domestic cat on the right side of the photo.

The adult turkeys sprung into action, one directing the vulnerable away from danger while the other stood to challenge the predator. No one was injured in the stand off; the cat seemed to have realized that the hunt would not be worth the pecking it would have endured.

  1. This is an amazing capture – the turkeys look so fierce and protective! You can feel the tension in the air. It’s amazing that the cat was able to realize that the hunt wasn’t worth it and the turkeys got to stay safe. Thank you for sharing this moment!
