Bull’s Eye!

On July 29, 2023, I was fortunate enough during my daily imaging of the sun to catch a moderately strong solar flare right at its peak as seen as the very bright area on the upper image. The lower image is from the Space Weather Prediction Center GOES satellite x-ray data. The vertical line marks the time of the photo which was at the peak of the flare. It had minimal effects on earth, but is the sort of thing that gets my nerdly juices flowing.

Yesterday, I captured a similar flare from the same active region, but it was about 15 minutes post flare peak, and already fading rapidly. I am always eager to see what surprises the sun will have whenever I get to observe it.
