Ponce de Leon Lighthouse, outside and inside.Ponce de Leon Inlet from the top of the lighthouse.
Yesterday we took a day trip to Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse. Now preserved by the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, the lighthouse, keepers’ houses and grounds are beautifully maintained. A hike up the 203 spiraling steps of the 175-feet-tall lighthouse led us to a magnificent view of the inlet and surrounding area. We had a lovely time touring the grounds and reading the historical displays. We were also very happy that the area no longer lived up to its original name, Mosquito Inlet.
