They’re cute, sneaky, and mischievous. They have learned well how to live near and to deal with people. This one used the porch post for cover to hide when needed and to seek whatever it desired when opportunity allowed. Tourists beware of your belongings!
The green monkeys were imported from Africa nearly 350 years ago and, through their years on Barbados, have evolved into a significantly different creatures from their African ancestors. They have been considered pests in the past and even hunted, but there was no way to eliminate them. Now they are tolerated, though it’s a good idea to keep close watch of your belongings when they are near.
The most interesting admonition I read about dealing with the monkeys: “Don’t throw anything at them; they’ll just throw it back at you.” Honestly, I have to respect that.
