Snowbird Return

Sandhill Cranes Returning to Florida

I was in the backyard preparing to photograph the sun when the familiar raspy rattley trill of sandhill cranes descended sweetly from high overhead. I just had to get their photograph before tending to the solar telescopes. Like human Floridians, migratory cranes flock here in the colder seasons, while others choose to stay here year round. Either way, they are a magnificent sight, gracing the skies and the farmlands with their stately presence. While some fulltime residents may dread the seasonal human onslaught, I know of no one who dreads the return of the avian “snowbirds.”
