Fireworks boomed and crackled through New Years Eve until well past midnight. The next morning motionless, hazy air carried the telltale odor of spent pyrotechnics when we went for our first walk of 2024. As the sun rose higher, sunbeams pierced through the smoky remnants of the night’s celebrations, and cast a magical glow to highlight the beginning of the day and of the new year.
