Of Suds and Buds

Bougainvillea at Friend’s House

It once was a pathetic little plant that produced little during the prior season and was soon to be replaced. One day some rather vile material found its way into its owner’s garbage can that was still by the street just after the garbage truck had come to empty its contents. The owner’s nose puckered at the pestilential odor from the can, and they promptly washed it out with water and lots of soap suds.

When it was clean, they emptied the foul water at the base of the dismal little plant. Since they had to replace it soon anyway, it seemed that the wash water couldn’t do it any more harm. To their surprise, after that dose of dirty water and soap suds it greened up and then burst forth with these blossoms. Whatever the ingredients that were in the garbage can residuals, they certainly worked miracles for this plucky little plant.
