Welcome or Not?

Seen At a Stoplight Near Us

Since we’ve been here 21 years, the sign couldn’t be referring to us–I hope. But I couldn’t help wondering if it applied to vacationers, newcomers, or snowbirds. Hopefully it doesn’t refer to vacationers since, one way or another, the tourist economy probably helped finance the fuel in his pickup. As for snowbirds, it just doesn’t work, for even after they “go home,” the keep coming back.

It must, then refer to newcomers. So, how long must someone be in Florida before they are no longer newcomers? It’s hard to say, and it depends on personal perspective, I guess. Perhaps this fellow has actually pondered the question, but it seemed like the wrong time to ask.
