To Big for His Britches

Cicada Out of Its Skin

Hurricane or not, life goes on, and after the tempest passed, this cicada decided that he had outgrown his skin. No problem, simply crawl out of it. It is known as molting, and the “nymph” transforms into an “adult” when it emerges from its exoskeleton shell which is left behind. After a brief period of unfolding his wings and adapting to his new form, he will fly off to court the cicada ladies for the few loud, glorious weeks of the final stage of his existence. Party on dude!

(Yes, I actually did an internet search to verify the gender of this cicada!)
