Sirius-ly Morning Musk

Noctilucent Cloud Trail from SpaceX Polaris Dawn Launch

Bright clouds in a dark sky revealed the twisted trail of Elon Musk’s SpaceX Polaris Dawn launch which carried an all-civilian crew into space yesterday morning. They will be orbiting more than three times higher above the earth than the International Space Station to test systems for extended space travel and will perform the first civilian “space walk.” I wish them well.

Their wind-warped vapor trail loops symbolically around Sirius near the right side of the photo as they reach for the stars. Though we can not actually travel all they way to Sirius, it’s fun to let the imagination carry us to such places which are otherwise unreachable.

(The other bright star on the photo just left of center of the upper photo is Procyon in the constellation Canis Minor)
