Memories On Wings

Piper Pacer

The airplane pictured above brought back memories of the Old Aviator who had imprinted indelible images in my mind of tube and fabric aircraft laced with the smells of airplane dope and avgas. He had learned to fly to in 1929, built four airplanes, and restored several others, including a Piper Clipper that I once owned. It looked very much like the Piper Pacer in this photo that was seen at a recent fly-in.

It brought back many happy memories of hours spent flying to places uniquely suited for such planes. It also revived memories of the precious moments spent with the Old Aviator listening to his stories and lessons he had learned; the gift of wings that he had so generously shared with his children. Thanks Dad.
