Cool Front

Stratus clouds in the wake of a recent cold front passage.

Cool weather has finally arrived here in central Florida with the passage of this season’s first real cold front a few days ago. Gusty, northerly winds buffeted the trees and even scattered my yard bags across the lawn and down the street after the yard waste that they contained had been picked up. Gray clouds formed a layer that sloped upwards from south to north, outlining the contact area between cool and warm air masses.

Lows in the 50’s caught our attention for a few days. I know that reports of these temperatures will produce shivers in some of our southern friends as well as earn snickers from our some of our northern friends. Most importantly it very likely means that for our region, hurricane season is over, and that, to me, seems way cooler than the temperatures.

P.S. Hurricane Oscar is winding down near eastern Cuba and predicted to make a hard right turn and skirt the southern Bahamas as a tropical storm, staying well away from Florida. YAY!
