Noggin Knocker Season

Overeager Acorn

This overeager acorn fell onto our sidewalk recently, but was off target and had poor timing. We are at the height of the acorn season now and are wary of the little projectiles falling from trees, sometimes bouncing off heads before reaching the ground. This produces the time-honored ritual that began decades ago when I was in medical school.

Dearly Beloved and I were camping on Mount Palomar in California during acorn season, and while the acorns were not quite as big as plums, they certainly felt like it. We were walking along a trail when suddenly I heard, then felt a tremendous hollow thunck on the top of my head. My eyes crossed for a moment, and I become vaguely of rather spicy words being uttered before I could fully come to my senses.

Of course, my wife had heard everything and was soon offering words of comfort; after she finished laughing, of course.
