Buns to the Sun

Catching Rays

Sir Gnome provides light in the evening and during the predawn twilight. But first, he has to capture light. Here he is on a stump, butt to the sun, soaking up rays. The light enters through the little solar panel on his backside and hides away inside Sir Gnome until darkness arrives. Then after dark it slowly beams back out through his hat to brighten the patio, where he resides during the night.

Of course there is a much more precise technical description for how it all works, but I like my explanation better.
