Winter Promise

Memory from White Winters Past

In the Tri-cities, Washington, where we once lived, snow almost always began as rain, which then froze under the layer of snow and made the roads and sidewalks very slippery. But it also produced some memorable sights such as the one above. I spotted these snow-covered berries across the street in the neighbor’s yard and took this photo. I call it “Winter Promise” because of the bud optimistically rising above the snow with the promise of the coming spring.
