Ice-cold Birdbath

Ice

This morning was our first hard freeze in two years. It was 24 degrees at the local airport, and while not as cold in our sheltered yard, it froze water in the birdbaths. About a quarter inch thick layer held leaves in suspension while a few icicles drooped along the edge of the birdbath. I broke open the ice so local birds can get some much-needed water, and my hands can testify, the water was indeed ice cold.
