Marquesan ukulele in the setting sunlight

Lovely weather enticed me to take this ukulele out on the deck to practice some Tahitian songs. I had purchased it some years ago on the island of Ua Huka in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia. After a while I put it down for one reason or the other and noticed how the setting sunlight had enhanced its carving that are representative of the native culture.

I did not get to meet the master woodcarver who made it but I did buy it from his daughter who promised to thank him on my behalf. It is a lovely instrument made by amazing people from a wonderful place whose music I will never forget.
