Return to Snowy Range

Medicine Bow Peak in Wyoming

I was 11 years old when my parents decided to drive from Nebraska to Seattle to visit the World’s Fair. Along the way we camped near the cliffs of Medicine Bow Peak in Wyoming’s Snowy Range seen at the center of the photo. Cool, clear water pooled around springs near its base, and light frost coated the camper when we arose the next morning, even though it was August.

We hiked up along the mountain slope well back of the cliffs before heading out on the next leg of our trip. Memories of the campsite, the springs, and a mountain hike above timberline remain to this day, and I was delighted to relive them as our airliner recently carried us over this remarkable mountain.
