Lichen and Lizards

Lichen and Lizard on Old Water Pump

Once upon a time it pumped water from the ground for the needs of people, animals, or perhaps both. Exactly where and for whom it served its vital role is now lost in the shadows of time. However, I can clearly remember similar pumps on my grandfather’s farm many years ago, and the taste of the cold, clear water it produced.

Now faded and covered with lichen, it still serves as a purpose at times as a perch for birds, bugs, and even a curly-tailed lizard.
