A Walk on the Wild Side

Elk in Estes Park

We were told not to approach the wildlife, but what do you do when the sidewalk takes you within 30 feet of them? We kept to the far side of the sidewalk and proceeded slowly past the apathetic elk, one of which was grazing on the green grass while the others lazed in the shadow of the pine tree. Look closely, the one by the trunk of the tree still has its fawn spots.

We needn’t have been worried as long as we didn’t walk directly towards them. They paid us little mind, after all, they’ve seen tourists before.
