Up and Down the Lake

The day dawned crisp and clear with a gentle breeze blowing down the valley. It was perfect for a cruise around Lake Estes for a couple of hours. Our captain, Jon, carefully motored us around the rocky shore past the few kayaks, paddle boats, and fishermen. Mostly, however, we had little traffic to worry about.

A panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and valleys greeted our eyes in every direction. Walkers, runners, and bicyclists scurried along a trail that encircled the lake and ospreys hovered overhead searching for fish. One osprey plunged into the water not more than 20 feet from us and then arose triumphantly with its morning meal.

It was a real treat bobbing up and down on the rippled waters, traveling up and down the lake, and watching the goings on with little use for a cell phone except to take an occasional photo.
