Bear Lake

Bear Lake With Longs Peak in the Background
Hallett Peak and Golden Aspen over Bear Lake

High in the Colorado Rockies at 9450 feet, Bear Lake rests ringed by towering mountains and cliffs, a relic of the last ice age. In the upper photo, the flat top of Longs Peak rises like a fabled monarch in the distance and was the scene of many family adventures. Dad had a treasured painting of this very view in his living room, a gift from a friend.

Hallett Peak dominates the scene in the lower photo with aspen beginning to turn gold in the high, cool, late-August air. We admired this and other views as we toured the lake, and were entertained by deer, chipmunks, and birds. Our time there was as golden as the aspen on the high mountain ridges.
