Meek and Meeker

Chapel on the Rock, Colorado

Officially named Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel, it is also commonly known as the Chapel on the Rock and rests at the foot of Mount Meeker on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. The rock was saved from destruction by the Colorado Highway Department by the efforts of Monsignor Joseph Bosetti who wanted to build a church upon it. Over time with donation of the land and funds, he was able to finally complete it in 1936,

Since that time it was visited by Pope John Paul II, and had been declared an historic site. It has survived both floods and fire that destroyed surrounding buildings and stands to this day at the foot of Mount Meeker as a gathering place for the believers and the meek. I also have to believe that in this setting it must surely inspire a sense of awe and humility in all, believers and nonbelievers alike.
