Fossil Shell

I stepped out of the car in a parking lot paved with local crushed rock and discovered this fossil shell next to my foot. It had lived millions of years ago when shallow seas covered most of the Florida peninsula and laid down the Ocala Limestone formation that I was now treading upon. Somehow its remains survived both time and the rock crusher, and enabled my curious eye to see that in a different time this had been a very different place.
