As we walked and gossiped along a paved trail in the woods this pinecone suddenly plummeted down from somewhere above and thudded onto the ground barely a foot from a bicycler who whizzed by at the same moment. Only inches and milliseconds kept him from receiving a solid knock on the noggin. We were a bit startled and were relieved that no one was hit, but somehow I think Chicken Little would have been pleased.
