The Greenling

Little Froggy on Door

This tiny little frog, resembling a critter from another realm, clung to our garage door under the nightlight looking for a bug breakfast. It has been so dry lately I couldn’t help but wonder where it found enough water to hatch from an egg and go through whatever sort of tadpole stage its kind does before finally hopping along on its way to adulthood.

Furthermore, just what are these little adolescent amphibians supposed to be called? I chose “greenling” due to its color and diminutive size. Unfortunately an internet search revealed that “greenling” is also a name of a fish. Well dang! I had thought I had just made up another word. I do know the difference between a frog and a fish but in this case, I prefer to usurp that name for this little hopper.
