Last Lights

Tonight is New Year’s Eve and we will turn out the holiday lights for the last time since tomorrow will be New Year’s Day. But this means today is special for another reason; it’s the last day of ”Naughty Week!” Have you never heard of ”Naughty Week?” If not, its for good reason. Many people want to keep it secret, especially parents.

You see, contrary to rumors and popular tradition, Santa and his elves DO NOT immediately begin preparations for the next Christmas season. No indeed, even though they love their work and Christmas, even they need a week off for relaxation, feasting, drinking, and, above all, shenanigans! Since they will be busy making merry and mischief, we all get the last week of the year, from December 26 through December 31 to do just as we please without the ever-watching eye of Santa.

By now you probably have figured out why parents have kept this little secret from their children. But beware, it ends tonight at midnight. As we turn off the holiday lights for the last time, Santa begins his watch and work again for the new year. So enjoy your last day of freedom and try not to be too naughty. And remember, even thought the lights are off for this season, they will be back on for the holidays in 2022, and Santa will be return again, as long as we are all good little boys and girls.
