Like a phoenix arising from its own ashes, these shoots are budding replacements for the tree from which they were taken. The tree itself was killed in a hard freeze this winter, but these shoots were taken before the freeze and kept safe in the shed. When they started to bud while in a box in the shed, we knew it was time to pot them. Through these shoots the tree that was destroyed by frost lives on.
