Oklawaha Springs

Abandoned Bedsprings Along the Oklawaha River

Some time ago we went on a pontoon boat tour of the 4.5 mile Silver River from its mouth, where it flows into the Oklawaha River, to its headwaters waters bubbling forth from Silver Springs. Our boat had been launched at the Ocala Boat Basin near end of the Silver River, however, some locals found a cheaper way to launch from the shore of the nearby Oklawaha shore. The photo shows this redneck boat launch complete with discarded bedsprings. While the reason the bed was abandoned there is obscure, it immediately earned the title: Oklawaha Springs.
