We figured we had gone far enough to when we came across this alligator just a couple of feet from the trail. Some tempted fate by passing by it, but we figured we didn’t need to. So we turned around and moseyed back the way we came. Good thing, because a couple hundred yards back down the trail, a brightly colored painted bunting flashed its feathers and settled into nearby brush and flitted around, much to our delight. We had made the right decision.

Holy Smoke! A little too close for comfort. You definitely made the right choice.
