In a well watered yard they are popping up like, well, themselves. They start as little white balls, then flatten out overnight, drop their spores and then fade away. But the mushroom fungus is not really gone, for these toadstools are mere projections from fibers of the main fungal body that exists extensively beneath the grass. Whew, makes you not want to go barefoot in the yard!
Don’t worry, these sort of fungi do nothing to your feet. It is their distant relatives that tread between the toes at times, and we all know how people feel about relatives.
