Mushroom in the Morning

Standing Tall.

Another mushroom popped up in a local yard overnight, shortly after a passing hurricane sent several inches of rain our way. It almost looks as if it spent the night wearing curlers. This one was solitary, but often they are in closely gathered bunches, and at times in ever expanding rings, known as fairy rings. In time the round cap flattened out to release its spores. Somehow I can’t help wondering if it flattened out gradually or quickly with a “pop” or a “boing!” Probably not. Either way it was a fascinating, though transient, delight.
