It’s been three days now since we last saw them; no more gold is glittering around our backyard feeder. We knew the time would come for them to fly north for the summer to raise their offspring, but it is always sad to see them go. But that is nature’s way, and in late December they and their family will return in their drab winter colors to congregate at the feeder and ingratiate themselves with us once more. In the meantime they will remain a beautiful memory.
