Smoke of a Distant Fire

Smoke-veiled Valleys in Idaho

When I first saw this, I thought: How lovely the morning mist in the mountain valleys. Then it dreadfully dawned on me that this was smoke from raging forest fires, not a thing of beauty. Indeed, smoke billowing from active fires are visible on the lower left of the image. Others are visible on close inspection.

According to https://www.fireweatheravalanche.org/fire/, there are hundreds of fires burning in the region, many of which will likely burn until dampened by cooling temperatures and future rains. I can hardly imagine how bad it must feel to anyone or any creature having to inhale the acrid smoke in the valleys. I wish them quick relief from this hellish inferno.
