Moon Eats Mars Tomorrow Night

Mars by the constellation Gemini. Pollux and Castor are the two bright stars on the left side of the photo above Mars

Tomorrow night, January 13, 2025, Mars, the brightest object on the lower part of the photo, will appear to be eaten by the Moon. In a rare event that occurs about once every 14 years, the Moon will pass in front of Mars, hiding it from view for a few hours. The event will be visible for most of the US; for those of us in Ocala, Florida, it will start about 8:44 PM. Mars will later reappear from the opposite side of the moon, undigested, about 52 minutes after midnight. For times at other locations, see: https://in-the-sky.org/news.php?id=20250114_16_100

I will be out with my telescope to watch it, providing that both don’t get “eaten” by clouds.
