Last night as advertised, the Moon slipped behind Earth’s shadow to become dark and red, then emerged to regain its full brilliance. These three photos show the moon on the right as it was entering Earth’s shadow, in the middle fully within the shadow, and on the left as it was leaving the shadow. It was a spectacular four and a half hour show and well worth the lost sleep.

The photos were taken from my driveway using six-inch diameter refractor telescope adapted as a telephoto lens for a Cannon 60D digital camera. It is shown here near the end of the eclipse. Wow! What a night!
