Mercurial Moment

Moon in Planetary Triangle

The morning of April 25, 2025, the thin, crescent Moon lay within a triangle framed by Venus, Saturn, and Mercury, but I was nearly denied the opportunity to see this event. At first, clouds below the Moon hid Mercury from view. It was a race to see if the clouds would disappear before Mercury was lost to the glare of the morning twilight. Finally, I caught sight of it winking above the remnants of that stubborn old cloud. About 10 minutes later it was lost in the glare, but I had seen what I wanted.

Any conjunction with Mercury is a rare sight, but to have two other planets and the Moon all gathered in such close proximity to Mercury is very rare indeed. I do not expect to see such a sight again in my life time.
