Morning

Dawn Over Poviae Bay, Bora Bora

I had awakened briefly during the night to see the soft light of the Moon caressing the floor and the balcony of our bungalow. It seemed that I had barely rolled over, and then I awoke again to find that the light had become brighter. It was no longer the light of the Moon, however, it was dawn over the barely rippled waters of Povaie Bay.

The distant crowing of roosters was the only audible sound and little else stirred except for an occasional car traveling the road on the opposite side of the bay. Yesterday, the bay’s waters had been rippled by dozens of outrigger canoes participating in the preliminary races of the Heiva celebration. Tomorrow they will be there again, but today, all is at peace, and so am I.
