Puffins Remembered

Puffin in the Spotlight

Rays from the setting sun spotlighted our wooden Puffin and brough back memories of adventures in Canadian waters abord our Fairy Boat. We had been searching for them as we cruised the San Juan Islands and the waters of southwest Vancouver Island. Then after leaving Cowichan Bay we turned into the Sansum Narrows, headed north.

Suddenly four or five appeared, brilliantly colored, with their wings flapping so fast they ware almost a blur. We were running at 22 MPH and they passed us like we were standing still.

It was a brief, glorious sight that I will never forget, and if I ever thought of making a “bucket list,” seeing them just one more time in the wild would be right at the top.
