Gator Got ‘er

Lakeside Restaurant In Oklawaha, Florida

In 1935, Ma Barker made the mistake of mentioning that they were looking for “Old Joe,” aka “Gator Joe” in a letter to one of her sons in prison. Local authorities were aware of a large alligator by that moniker, and legend has it that this was one of the clues that led to her ultimate end in a shootout not far from where this photo was taken.

The gator she was after may have help turn the tables that led to her demise instead of his. So, in a sense, the gator got ‘er.

P.S. Gator Joe’s Beach Bar and Grill was established in 1926, so it is 100 years old and still going strong!
