The night before the train ride to Denali National Park, our tour guide spread the news that clouds would be hiding Denali, Alaska’s highest peak, just as they had for 29 of August’s 31 days, and that we had practically zero chance of seeing it. Meteorologists were predicting snowy weather for the mountain peak that would totally cloud out our view. What did they know?
The next morning dawned crisp and clear over the entire region, and many mountains, including Denali, were clearly visible, much to our surprise and delight. During the trip, wherever terrain and trees didn’t block the view, rail passengers crowded the coach windows to catch a glimpse and to photograph the fabled peak. We were all very pleased with this happy reversal of fortune. The tour guide stated that this was the clearest that he had ever seen the mountain.
So, why had the forecast been so wrong? Well, we just figured that it was all due to the weather.
