Hermit at Home

Hermit Crab in its Shell Home

A little hermit crab hunkered into its shell until it was certain that all danger was past. Then it righted itself and walked away while surveying its surrounds with eyes perched like periscopes on tiny stalks.

The shell wobbled along, carried by the decapod’s lurching legs and set my mind in motion. I began to imagine an arthropod announcer for the Coconut News Network: “Hermit crabs and the shells they call home; tonight on Copra!”
