Pressure, Temperature, and Volume

This sad little inflatable Moon globe in the garage was round as a beach ball a few days ago when the temperature was warm, but now that it’s cold, this Moon is a shriveled shadow of itself. Why? In some dusty old book on the shelf there is the formula: pV=nRT which can be manipulatedContinue reading “Pressure, Temperature, and Volume”

On Becoming a House Plant

Normally this plant, which we call “Seymour,” sits outside in the nice, warm Florida weather; only there hasn’t been any warm weather lately. So, we temporarily put our little green friend in the garage to keep him from freezing. Over the weekend it will get even worse, we’re expecting temperatures in the low twenties! Puffins Remembered

Rays from the setting sun spotlighted our wooden Puffin and brough back memories of adventures in Canadian waters abord our Fairy Boat. We had been searching for them as we cruised the San Juan Islands and the waters of southwest Vancouver Island. Then after leaving Cowichan Bay we turned into the Sansum Narrows, headed north.Continue reading “Puffins Remembered”

Rare Pair

No matter what they were seeking, little could escapeContinue reading “Rare Pair”

Natural Resource

This seemingly worthless dead tree is a treasure for many creatures in the woods. Molds, lichen, worms, insects, woodpeckers and much more come here to dine and recycle its vital nutrients making it a virtual “Treemart,” a very valuable resource indeed. #deadtree #naturalresource #molds #lichen #insects #woodpeckers

Shadow of Things …

Warm weather had returned again to Florida, but only briefly. A sign over a building blocked the sun to reveal a stark, dark blue sky that foreshadowed the return of arctic air. The next day started off warm until dark clouds and a harsh north wind roared through around noon and sent scantily-clad people scurryingContinue reading “Shadow of Things …”

Out of this World

We were treated to a meal at Space 220 Restaurant at Disney’s Epcot theme park. A “space elevator” virtually lifted us hundreds of miles above Earth to a station in orbit where we dined with scenes of Earth and Space visible through the giant “window.” It was very creative, and the special effects created aContinue reading “Out of this World”
