Breezes ruffled its feathers as the wren puffed up its downy insulation to fend of the chill of a passing cold front. Stay warm, my feathered friend. #wren #down #feathers #cold

Feeling Blue
It’s over; the mild autumn weather has turned frigid and freezing temperatures have arrived. We even had to put a blanket on the pool. As I sadly did my duty, I couldn’t help saying, “See ya’ next spring.” #cold #winter #pool #freeze
Fall Is in the Air
Unusually high temperatures in Wisconsin have given way to more seasonal weather after a cold front passed through that dropped some rain and chilled the air. Now the temperatures are falling like the leaf that was serendipitously captured in this photo of Devil’s Lake. #fall #autumleaf #wisconsin #cold #devilslake
Ice-cold Birdbath
This morning was our first hard freeze in two years. It was 24 degrees at the local airport, and while not as cold in our sheltered yard, it froze water in the birdbaths. About a quarter inch thick layer held leaves in suspension while a few icicles drooped along the edge of the birdbath. IContinue reading “Ice-cold Birdbath”
Shiver Hula
It’s cold out, especially for Florida. Snow fell in the panhandle and here, a hard freeze is likely Friday night. So was this hula lady dancing or shivering? Even I was shaking a bit when I got this photo, and no, I wasn’t dancing. #hula #hulalady #ukulele #cold #freeze
Drinking the Bath Water
Moments before the photo was taken, a robin was splashing and bathing in the water. Other robins joined the fray, then encircled the rim and began drinking. When its cold and dry outside, I guess the birdbath has to serve multiple purposes. However, the thought is a little unappealing to me, so a little whileContinue reading “Drinking the Bath Water”
Florida Snow
While the central and northeastern U.S. is battling frigid temperatures and snow, our only snow is fake and is indoors. I like it that way. #snow #indoors #floridawinter #cold
Frosty the Frog
This poor little frog sat immobile on the edge of the road, soaking up sun rays in hopes of getting warm enough to be able to hop again. It was too cold to leap away as I took this up-close photo but rather, remained motionless. Though mostly out of harms way, I certainly hope heContinue reading “Frosty the Frog”
Frosty May Morning
Yesterday, frigid Floridians arose to frost on the car as the temperature dropped to 27 degrees Fahrenheit at Little America, Wyoming. Though we had lived near there in the past, our cold adaptation has long since vanished, and though frost may be cold, to us it is definitely not “cool.” Nope, not anymore! #frost #wyomingContinue reading “Frosty May Morning”
Jack’s Back!
Jack Frost has made a visit for real for the first time this year in central Florida. Temperatures weren’t low enough to freeze any standing water, and most of the plants are doing ok so far but colder temperatures will likely come, and it will be necessary to cover the pineapple plants when it does.Continue reading “Jack’s Back!”
