After carrying out the trash for this morning’s pick up, I was greeted with this jaw-dropping sight. The December supermoon hovered above the trees while a contrail crossed from Canis Minor (upper left) to Auriga on the lower right. Just below the trees in the upper part or the photo, the brilliant Jupiter forms aContinue reading “Supermoon”

To Graze the Moon
The predawn sky offers momentary sights of pink and red colors on clouds and contrails in the sky. I have been on flights that flew through the colorful morning clouds and marveled at their glory. In a curious alignment recently, this pink contrail grazed the top of the moon to provide a rare sight muchContinue reading “To Graze the Moon”
Con Art
Unsettled weather patterns set clouds at the cruising altitude of a passing airliner. A jet plowed a furrow through the clouds that quickly filled with the contrail left behind. With the sky as the canvas, the airplane’s trail appeared to be the work of a master “con” artist. #conart #contrail #clouds #sky #jet #airliner
Over the Moon
No cat, fiddle, or cow was involved, only an airliner soaring sedately over the Moon, leaving a thin contrail behind. Below, cloudy fingers appeared to cast cottony whips across the lower part of the photo to finish framing the scene. #moon #airliner #contrail #catandfiddle #cow
Crossroads in the Sky
The sky has its own roads traveled day and night carrying passengers across the country. These two contrails marked a crossing of these roads by planes separated by minutes and many miles, yet they left their tracks temporarily framed by trees from our point of view. I wish their travelers well. #contrail #airlines #passengers #intersection
It’s SpaceX, Duck!
We missed the actual launch, but Fairy noted the remnants and I just had to get this photo. The sun is well below the horizon, but still its rays reached the upper contrail of the ascending rocket. Atmospheric winds and turbulence did the rest. This really quacks me up.
