The color of fall depends on where you live. High in the Rocky Mountains we saw aspen turning to gold, in the northern hardwood forests reds, oranges yellows and brown will soon burst forth spectacularly. Here in Florida, the seasonal colors come from the autumn-blooming plants. Regardless of the location and the flora, nature hasContinue reading “Fall Colors”

Forest Light
Sunbeams spotlighted the leaves on trees and bushes as well as on the ground and cast a magical spell as we passed by. Though the forest was occupied by birds, coyotes, and bears (Oh my!), as well as insects and critters that slither, it was easy to imagine mythical creatures lurking in the sunlight’s reflectionsContinue reading “Forest Light”
Blowin’ in the Wind
If the answer truly is “blowing in the wind,” then someone certainly has been asking a lot of questions since it has been so windy lately. This leads me to another question: Where did the large leaf in the photo come from? There are no nearby trees with leaves like that, so if I wantContinue reading “Blowin’ in the Wind”
Déjà Vu Again and Again!
Which photo is before and which is after? Actually they are both; these scenes will alternate over and over as further leaves fall over the next couple of weeks. Weird, just plain weird. #leaves #driveway
Time To Leaf
It’s late January and flurries of leaves, not snow are falling in central Florida. All the while new buds are sprouting, soon to be followed by new green leaves. Be they shedding or budding anew, for the trees it is time to leaf. #leaves #trees #sprouts #buds #leaf
Gone Today, Here Tomorrow
The leaves are not yet done falling. Blow the leaves off the driveway today and more will come down tomorrow. Soon that will end followed by their seedy sequel. Pollen pods (aka tree testicles) will be the next thing to fall from the trees with their dastardly little pods and pollen all over the place,Continue reading “Gone Today, Here Tomorrow”
Re-leaf
The leaves have left the trees to color the water’s reflections. They will soon decompose, shedding nutrients into the waters to be absorbed by roots, and retuned once again as new leaves in the spring. #autumnleaves #leaves #hendersonlake
Fall in the Spring
February in Florida brings flurries of leaves as restless winds rattle the branches of the trees. The live oaks hold onto their leaves until spring-like weather appears and then dumps them with gusto. Strange but true, here in Florida we have the fall in the Spring, but it sure beats snow!
January Fall
Yep, it’s winter in Florida and now the leaves are falling. Tonight we will approach the freezing mark and while it may not ice over the birdbath, it will leave some frost on the shingles. At least it is leaves that will be falling, not snow.
