Emerging from Stone

In 2019 while we were staying in a bungalow at Rohotu Fare in Bora Bora, we saw a Polynesian man, William, sculpting a large stone near the entrance. He was cheerful as we admired his work which was just beginning to take form. He had done other stone carvings on the site as well and was justifiably proud of his work.

On our recent return three years later the completed work guarded the entrance and we were amazed by transformation that had occurred. It was as if the giant tiki had been entrapped in stone for untold millennia and had been released by William to guard the grounds and tantalize our dreams.
